As a part of Welluvia’s collaboration with ZARIĆ Jewellery, Nastja and I created a soundscape called Lily of the Valley (1er Mai). When we were shooting the story, I was also working on a future product for Welluvia that utilises the essential oil from the flower, and was also planting some of the bulbs in our garden. For the editorial, we aimed for a playful mood with dark undertones, which we decided is the direction we wanted the soundscape to reflect as well.

The lily-of-the-valley is a beloved flower in our family, it’s the favourite flower of our sister Maša, and a flower our mother grew up cultivating in her Mediterranean garden. It was a really fun and collaborative process for Nastja and I to create. Sonically, the mix opens with upbeat tracks and transitions into more emotive cinematic sounds. There is a key transition in the middle of the mix with Angelo Badalamenti’s unreleased ‘Birds in Hell,’ where we wanted the mix to transform to reflect the poisonous nature of the flower. Finishing it off with a track called ‘Je Suis Malade’ that means a lot to the both of us, introduced to us by our sister Vanja many years ago.

Enjoy!
