Nutrient-Dense Morning Power Smoothie

bannersulfur.jpg

To coincide with this week's articles on the benefits of matcha and sulforaphane, I’ve created a recipe that utilises both ingredients for a nutrient-dense morning smoothie. I use the Mura Organics Greens Powder that has all of the active ingredients below along with others such as nettle and wheatgrass.

The essential ingredients:

  • Hemp Protein - Hemp protein is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. These both promote energy production and strengthen the immune system. It also contains phytosterols that are cholesterol regulating compounds.

  • Turmeric - Tumeric has been scientifically proven to prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. It also possesses potent anti-inflammatory qualities and an array of antioxidants.

  • Matcha - One of this week's articles outlined the plethora of benefits that matcha possesses. Read about it here.

  • Broccoli Sprout Powder - Another ingredient discussed heavily in another of this week's articles. A rich source of sulforaphane, find out more about broccoli sprouts here.

  • Spirulina - A type of blue-green algae - spirulina is a nutrient-dense food in itself. They are packed with vitamins A, B’s, C, E, calcium, magnesium, zinc and selenium.

  • Chlorella - Similar to spirulina, chlorella is a single-celled green algae that possesses potent amounts of several vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Two servings

Ready in 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • One organic banana

  • 1 1/2 cups organic coconut water

  • Two tablespoons organic hemp protein

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • One teaspoon matcha

  • 1/4 teaspoon stevia

  • One teaspoon organic broccoli sprout powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon spirulina or chlorella

  • Four large organic spinach leaves

Directions:

  1. In a separate bowl, mix the matcha powder and stevia in hot water until smooth. Make sure the water isn’t boiling as it will destroy some of the nutrients within the matcha.

  2. Cut up the banana and add into a blender along with the coconut water, hemp protein, turmeric, broccoli sprout powder, spirulina/chlorella and spinach leaves.

  3. Blend until all the powders are evenly mixed in, and the spinach and banana are blended well.

  4. Mix in the matcha and stevia and serve. Drink immediately as delayed consumption might destroy some of the nutrients.
