I love creating simple, delicious and approachable recipes, and this one is no exception! Creating this exclusive recipe for Welluvia using the Dandelion Chai powder and infusing it with other great flavours was a lot of fun. This recipe is super quick and straightforward to make, and the best part is how versatile it is! I’ve been drinking the Dandelion Chai Tea for years, it’s delicious and the ingredients in it feature a variety of benefits. For this, I’ve used the powder version of the tea, which is easier to cook with.

  • Dandelion and Chicory - Dandelion root has long been used as a ‘liver tonic’. The constituents within dandelion help detoxify the liver, assist with skin and eye problems and relieve symptoms of liver disease. Chicory is also another great liver supporting root. It has also shown to assist with high blood pressure, digestive issues and problems related to the heart and cardiovascular system.

  • Pears - Pears are all rich in an array of essential antioxidants, immune-boosting compounds and dietary fibres. Due to their high fibre content, pears can assist with various digestive related issues.

  • Spices such as Cardamom, Cinnamon and Caraway - Cardamom, cinnamon and caraway are all highly beneficial when it comes to combating digestive problems. They can assist with bouts of nausea, acidity and bloating while also helping to detoxify the body through the kidneys. Cinnamon, in particular, has shown to lower stomach temperature, which aids digestion.

Ingredients:

  • Four organic Bosc pears, peeled

  • Five cups of water or just enough to cover the pears in the pot

  • One tbsp organic dandelion chai powder

  • ⅓ cup of organic coconut sugar

  • One organic cinnamon quill

  • ½ organic vanilla pod, split to release seeds

Directions:

  1. Add the pears to a medium-sized pot that is big enough for you to lay the pears sideways.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring it to a simmer - not boil!

  3. Simmer for 20 minutes.

  4. Serve with some vegan vanilla ice cream and some walnuts for added crunch. If you’d like to eat them cold and want a deeper flavour, let them cool and sit in the syrup overnight.

Other Ways To Enjoy The Recipe:

  1. Make some French toast, slice the poached pears on top and drizzle with maple syrup and walnuts pieces for added crunch.

  2. Top your porridge or overnight oats with the pears and pour some of the syrup over.

  3. Create a drink from the syrup! Don’t let that goodness go to waste. Add an additional cup fo water to dilute the sweetness a little and serve hot or cold. You can chop up some pear and add it in there too if you like.

  4. Place slices on top of pancakescrepes and rice puddings

  5. Use them in a pear crumble!

Enjoy!
