Welcome to Welluvia's first newsletter!

I'll be sending out a newsletter at the start of every month to accompany the article of the week. In these newsletters, I wanted to update everyone on things I've been up to, what articles I had planned for the coming weeks and any news I wanted to talk about that can't be incorporated into one of the regularly scheduled articles.

I've loved working on Welluvia for the past few months. The more I research, write and talk about different topics, the more I enjoy doing these articles every week. In the past fortnight, I've come across a few other wellness blogs on the web and have seen what I didn't want Welluvia to be. I think it's great that so many people are on a 'wellness journey' since the start of the new decade, but was disappointed to see so many bloggers using health and wellness as a marketable fashionable/trend topic.

Their newsletters were cryptic and dramatic, and the content themselves were generally marketed towards selling faux new-age products with the word "organic" slapped on them. My aim with Welluvia is to inform readers on topics they might not have heard of or subjects that already interest them that they wanted to know more about. Wherever possible, I try to include my personal experience with some of the therapies or wellness products I write about, rather than write about things that are trendy. I also came across many pages where the posts were quite obviously sponsored by a brand to sell their products - I know it's quite common, but it comes off as insincere to me. I will only ever post about brands, products or services that I have found myself and believe in. I tend not to name drop specific clinics, locations or shops to source products from as I think anyone can find the things I talk about from their own trusted or local outlets. I plan on having articles written by guest writers as well, professionals who are experts on specific topics, not models who live in Bondi.

That being said, this month I have a few fascinating articles I'm excited to share. I swapped from my daily two large coffees to matcha for two weeks, and the results were really interesting - the difference was even more noticeable when I returned to coffee a few days ago. Another thing I've been interested in lately is cruciferous vegetables, sulforaphane and their bioavailability. A pioneering biochemist has led the majority of the mainstream coverage of this topic, and it's been fascinating to research.

Outside of Welluvia, I'm excited for Luca Guadagnino's new film 'The Staggering Girl' to come out this weekend. I love his movies and have been listening to the score by Ryuichi Sakamoto for the past week on repeat. My mother is returning from Europe next week, which I'm looking forward to as well. She has a plethora of knowledge on all the topics I write about (having been practising these things for over 40+ years). I had asked her to fact-check a lot of what I've already posted about, and having her here again will be an invaluable insight for some of my future content.

To finish off, it seems this week is the week of music. I compiled a launch mix for when I first started Welluvia but never got around to posting it. The idea came from a Monday morning tram ride where I was exhausted and hadn't had a coffee yet. I found particular songs perked me up and put me in a positive and switched on mindset. Along with that mix, I have made a mix to accompany this week's sensory deprivation tank article, and another that will be released on Friday with a mini-article just in time for Valentine's Day.

Hope everyone is having a great and healthy start to the year.

With wellness,

Aleksandar
